A pair of Black Edition Volvos are due in Australia next month, which will serve as plug-in hybrid flagships of the S60 and XC60 lines.
Volvo Australia is introducing a pair of limited-run Black Edition versions of its XC60 SUV and S60 sedan.
Both Black Edition models are based on the flagship T8 Ultimate plug-in hybrid (PHEV) grades of each model and therefore sit atop their respective model ranges.
The move also marks the return of PHEV technology in the S60 in Australia.
The two models are due in Australian showrooms in April 2024.
The Volvo XC60 Black Edition is priced from $103,990 before on-road costs, a $2000 premium over the model’s existing Ultimate T8 flagship.
The addition of the Volvo S60 Black Edition, priced from $88,990 before on-road costs, is the first PHEV version of the sedan offered here since 2020 when the R-Design was dropped. At the time, the PHEV sedan was priced at $84,990 before on-roads.
Since 2023, the Volvo S60 has been solely available with a turbocharged 2.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol powertrain in Australia.
Powering the XC60 and S60 Black Editions is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 233kW and 400Nm on its own, paired with a 107kW/309Nm electric motor.
Combined outputs are 340kW and 709Nm, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
A high gloss Onyx Black exterior is exclusive to both models, with the dark colouring also applying to the grille and badging.
There are also black window trims, black wheels – 21-inch for the XC60 and 19-inch for the S60 – and black Nappa leather upholstery inside the cabin.
Standard equipment from the non-Black Edition models includes:
