The Volvo XC40 Special Edition has gone on sale in Australia, offering local buyers a value-packed SUV with petrol power before the brand goes electric only.
Priced from $59,990 drive-away nationwide from now until the end of 2024, the Special Edition is up to $2000 cheaper than the Volvo XC40 Plus it’s based on, though the new variant comes with more equipment as standard.
Optional features on the Plus which are standard-fit on the Special Edition include a surround-view camera, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather-accented upholstery and premium paint at no extra cost.
Carryover equipment from the XC40 Plus includes a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen running Google software, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry.

Orders for the XC40 Special Edition will remain open until December 30, 2024.
Volvo Australia has previously announced its plans to go electric-only in Australia by 2026, and the electric version of its XC40 – currently known as the XC40 Recharge – will be renamed as the EX40, reflecting its standing as the larger alternative to the new EX30.
The XC40 remains Volvo’s most popular model in Australia, with its 1879 deliveries between January and July 2024 accounting for more than one-third of the brand’s registrations.
Despite this, the XC40 has experienced a significant drop in deliveries, falling by 46.7 per cent compared to last year’s opening seven months in a segment which continues to grow.
