An allegedly drunk driver was detained by tradies and later charged by police after causing a three-car collision and appearing to try to leave the scene in Brisbane on Monday morning.
Dashcam footage posted to Dash Cam Owners Australia shows the male driver of a blue Mazda 3 speed through a red light at the intersection of Hellawell and Beaudesert Roads between Acacia Ridge and Sunnybank Hills in Brisbane’s south, before ploughing into a white Toyota Yaris.
The Yaris then spins into a red Mazda CX-30 following behind, leaving the three cars strewn across the busy intersection.
A number of passers-by quickly came to the aid of the driver of the Toyota hatch, who was extricated from the heavily damaged car.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mazda 3 can be seen getting out of his car before crossing the multi-lane road, walking away from the crash site towards the footpath.
It’s then that one of the tradesmen runs over to stop the driver responsible from leaving the scene, raising his fist at the man who eventually submits and drops to the ground.
7News reports the driver of the Yaris was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Queensland Police has charged the 26-year-old Carseldine man with dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He’s due to appear at Richlands Magistrates Court on August 6.
