The Mercedes-Benz GLB arrives in Australia this month. It’ll be available only in GLB 200 and GLB 250 4Matic variants at first, priced at $59,900 and $73,900 before on-road costs, respectively.

    The AMG GLB 35 arrives later this year, priced at $88,900 before on-road costs.

    Though it’s slightly shorter than a C-Class sedan, the GLB actually features a standard third row of seating and seats seven occupants in total.

    Engines

    The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is available with three different engines.

    The GLB 200 uses a turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine. It produces 120kW of power and 250Nm of torque and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GLB 200 is the only front-wheel drive GLB.

    The GLB 250 4MATIC is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 165kW of power and 350Nm of torque. It uses an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and features standard all-wheel drive.

    The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 also features all-wheel drive, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, though it produces 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque. All-wheel drive is standard.

    Fuel Economy

    Under the more lenient NEDC combined cycle, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB consumes 6.2L/100km in GLB 200 guise, 7.4L/100km as a GLB 250, and 7.6L/100km as an AMG GLB 35.

    Dimensions

    The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB measures 4634mm long, 1658mm tall and 1834mm wide.

    The GLB’s total luggage space is 560L with the third row stowed, increasing to 1755L with both the second and third rows stowed.

    Safety

    When Euro NCAP – which uses the same standards as ANCAP – tested the GLB in 2019, it received a rating of five stars.

    That was based on a score of 92 per cent for adult occupant safety, 88 per cent for child occupant safety, 78 per cent for vulnerable road user safety, and 74 per cent for safety assist.

    All 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB models come standard with Mercedes-Benz’s Active Brake Assist with semi-autonomous braking. There’s also lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and nine airbags.
