The Hyundai i30 N hatchback and Fastback are about to get a sedan brother.
An i30 N Sedan has been snapped testing by KoreanCarBlog in Hyundai’s signature Performance Blue.
It rides on bigger wheels than the standard i30 Sedan, borrowed from the Veloster N offered in the USA and Korean.
There are two large exhaust pipes at the rear, and a more aggressive rear diffuser in keeping with the i30 N hatchback.
Hyundai has covered the boot lid with boxy camouflage, which makes it hard to tell exactly what’s changed back there. But expect to see a lip spoiler, and plenty of N badging.
Power in the i30 N Sedan is likely to come from a variation of the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine offered in the current i30 N hatchback and Fastback.
Hyundai is currently working on a dual-clutch transmission to sit alongside the manual. It’s expected to arrive in Australia on the facelifted i30 N early in 2021.
“We are expecting to see a healthy uplift in volume when the N DCT transmission launches locally, alongside the tradition manual, early next year,” a Hyundai spokesperson told CarExpert.
“The manual i30 N has already built a reputation among enthusiast owners for being fast, comfortable and capable, as well as great value.
“That will not go unnoticed with other enthusiast drivers who want the performance, but don’t want the inconvenience of a clutch pedal.”
The 2020 Hyundai i30 Sedan was revealed earlier this year. It’s set to touch down later this year, replacing the Elantra in the process.
