About the Land Rover Discovery 2
Leonie D purchased this Land Rover Discovery 2 used for $9,000 (including all on-road costs) in 2012. Leonie D would buy this car again because: “It gave me the Land Rover disease. It’s incurable. It’s been my best friend for almost 9 years now. I’ve had (and loved) other 4WD makes but the second I first sat in this one I was doomed. It owned me. “
How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
It’s 20 years old, over 420,000km and has been extremely reliable in the 9 years. It’s made friends with several tow trucks this year, few old parts needing replacement.
It has been far easier to run and maintain and more reliable than other makes I’ve had! And generally issues minor and it will get me home.
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
It’s my death do us part. Stuck with it for life. My life, it will always be resurrected should it die.
There’s been so much life lived with this car. Aside from a few times this year, it’s never let me down. I look at it and a big goofy smile always appears on my face. I just love this car. It’s also the community it opened up. Not just a car.
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
It was a bargain when I got it. Flew over to Victoria and road tripped home with it. Loved everything about it then, and still do now. Only change is I put larger tyres on and new driving lights.
It has power everything, climate control. But also personality. I wish it was manual, but I’m in a wheelchair so that’s a feature I can’t change.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
It’s the Millennium Falcon, the fastest Disco in the galaxy. I enjoy it, goes great for a 20 year-old diesel! And heavy vehicle! It also is quite economical. It handles the fast country roads with ease.
Its off-road capabilities know no bounds.
What do you think of the technology in your car?
Enough of what I like… but not so scary it’s a bees whisker from becoming self aware. It’s actually got loads of technology in it, fancy electronic hand control for me, automatic tailgate, big lifter in the back for my off road power chair.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
I wish it had ACE but rear airbags keep it solid on the road. It’s extremely comfortable and doesn’t cause me pain or discomfort. Also comfortable to camp in! Cool in summer, warm in winter. Love driving it and never get bored.
Do you have any additional comments about your car?
Best 4WD I’ve ever owned. I cannot wait to get back to exploring and adventure with my trusty Landie!
