About the Volkswagen Golf
Frank purchased this Volkswagen Golf used for $9,988 (including all on-road costs) in 2021. Frank would buy this car again because: “I would definitely buy this car again for many reasons. Although this car lacks the power of other variants such as a GTI it is still fun to drive, this car is also very practical and has tons of room with five seats and a very large trunk for a hatch.”
How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
This car has been for the most part reliable with only a few minor issues. When purchased there was oil leaking from the engine, we later found as the crankcase breather hose was snapped.
Like other Golfs from these period the roof liner was sagging but was fixed by the dealership under warranty. Other than these small issues the car has had no major issues since owning it.
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
Ownership of this car has so far been pretty good, and it is a very enjoyable car to drive. As a car enthusiast I have enjoyed modifying this car and was glad to see that there is a large variety of aftermarket modifications available for this model.
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
Although the price is somewhat high for a baseline Golf it has been a great car. This car was purchased when COVID still had a major impact on the used car market and was very hard to find car that was worth its value.
Features of this car are somewhat basic, for example having a standard radio, but this would be expected from a 10 year-old car.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
This car is fun to drive, however it does lack the power and performance of other models. Having a manual transmission in this car does make the driving experience so much better.
Fuel economy is fairly average in this car.
What do you think of the technology in your car?
Technology is very average compared to today’s new car. The car has a standard radio that does not support Bluetooth, no USB port, and it has a small screen on the gauge cluster that shows, gear, odometer, trip, and service notifications. That’s pretty much it.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
Ride comfort is not bad for a car of its price and it’s fine for everyday commuting. The suspension does handle well but it’s nothing special. Handling is good and also very responsive with rack and pinion steering.
