    About the BMW 5 Series

BUSKER63 purchased this BMW 5 Series used for $42,000 (including all on-road costs) in 2021. BUSKER63 would buy this car again because: “It is an awesome, high tech machine that sounds awesome and drives like a thoroughbred. Also the kids nearly wet themselves again when I told them I had bought an ex-police car. A bit disappointed that the alternating flashing headlights have been disabled though. Actually, gutted. “

How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.

No dramas, but the seat needed fixing because a burly copper had been dropping down onto the seat bolster and he/she broke the panel for the seat controls. Otherwise, it’s early days. The dashboard tells me that the brake fluid is near its use by date. TMI really.

What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?

The ownership experience has been so so. Got off to a bad start when I had to get a tow truck to pull it out of the lot because of COVID. No one stopped me driving home from the RTA with no plates though; I didn’t have a screw driver.

Are you happy with the price and features of your car?

This is really the rubber mats model of the BMW 5 Series, but it does have M Sport and launch control. More like ‘out of control’ actually. I will get to use this awesome car in some country touring soon so then the value will really hit home, hard.

What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?

The performance of this car is like an old muscle car V8. 0 to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds. That is old school quick. But the transmission is flawless so most of the urge you want comes with a delicate twist of the ankle.

Economy is about 8.0L/100 km gently in the city or hard in the country. It was sitting on 12 when the lead-footed boys in blue traded it in. I don’t know how they did it!

What do you think of the technology in your car?

There’s a lot of toys to play with but the nav is easy to use. Same for the radio, so there’s no hurry to memorise the manual – actually it’s built in to the dash menus and also in my phone. Slick.

What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?

It has 140,000 km on it but you wouldn’t know. It’s quiet, smooth and serene really. I have left it in comfort mode because it’s good. It is solid on lumpy roads. The car is a bit bigger than I am used to so I am a bit nervy positioning it on the road when I fly past another envious road user.

Do you have any additional comments about your car?

The BMW 530d is a seriously good sports sedan at a price I can afford. It also came with a free fire extinguisher which is a good reminder for me and everyone not to park it in long grass when it’s hot.
