BMW Australia starts delivering cars after weeks-long stop sale
BMW Australia dealers have been cleared to start delivering cars impacted by a brake fault. More than 26,000 cars were recalled today.

2024 BMW X4 Safety Rating
The BMW X4 wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating based on tests conducted by Euro NCAP on the related X3 in 2017.
Additional side impact and oblique tests were carried out on the X4 to confirm results based on the differences in side structures between the two vehicles.
Category scores included 93 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 70 per cent for pedestrian detection and 58 per cent for safety assist.
It’s worth noting these scores only apply to xDrive20d and xDrive30i variants, with the former no longer on sale in Australia.
Dual frontal, side chest, side curtain and driver’s knee airbags are standard.
The BMW X4 xDrive20i gets the basic Driving Assistant package, which features the following:
- Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Cruise control with downhill braking function
- Lane departure warning
- Blind-spot monitoring

The X4 drives like the X3 it's based on, which is no bad thing given the mid-sized Bimmer is one of the more athletic vehicles in this class.
Even with the 21-inch alloy wheels of the M40i and M Competition, the X4 boasts comfortable ride quality.
The ZF-sourced eight-speed torque-converter automatic shifts smoothly, and is almost as rapid between ratios on the move as a DCT.
The X4’s best aspect might just be its steering, which manages a good balance between high-speed stability and low-speed response.
There’s surprisingly good feel and feedback for a relatively large SUV with electric power steering, and a meaty weight at the wheel rim that feels reassuring.
With standard xDrive four-wheel drive, you’re not going to run out of traction in anything but the most demanding conditions.
Performance varies markedly – the xDrive20i takes 8.3 seconds to do the 0-100km/h sprint, while the M Competition does the sprint in just 3.8 seconds.

2024 BMW X4 vs other SUV's to consider
With the recent introduction of the Audi Q5 Sportback, each German luxury brand offers a mid-sized 'coupe SUV'. The Audi is arguably the least sporty in both looks and drive, but it's certainly a pleasant entrant into the segment.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is at the end of its lifecycle, with a new generation set to launch in 2023, though it still has a lot to offer. It can also go toe-to-toe with the mighty M Competition in performance in GLC 63 AMG guise with its twin-turbo V8, though its successor is expected to move to a turbocharged plug-in hybrid four-cylinder.
