The Genesis GV80 will offer a new six-seat option for the 2022 model year, the company has revealed in a social media post.

First published to the Korean luxury upstart’s global Instagram profile earlier today, the 2022 Genesis GV80 features a 2+2+2 seating arrangement.

There are individual second-row seats with a newly-designed fixed centre console in the rear, complete with wood trim and separate controls.

At this stage, the company’s local division hasn’t confirmed whether this configuration will become an option in Australia.

As you can see in the above gallery, there are duplicate versions of the rotary infotainment dial and buttons to control two individual infotainment screens in the rear, much like the units we’ve seen in the latest G80 sedan with the optional Luxury Package.

While details of the GV80’s rear entertainment system are scant, it’s likely the same dual 9.2-inch HD setup from the related G80, which allows second-row occupants to play music, watch videos, and toggle other functions like navigation.

The real open-pore wood and stitched leather surfaces continue for the rear-seat centre console as well.

While unconfirmed for Australia, CarExpert expects the six-seat layout to soon become available for the Australian market, given Hyundai already offers a two-seat second row in the seven-seat Palisade. Additionally, the flagship Mazda CX-9 Azami LE and CX-8 Asaki LE both offer similar six-seat configurations.

It would also give the GV80 a point of difference against luxury-branded rivals like the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE which only offer seven-seat options when specified locally with three rows.
