The first Cupra Formentors have only just rolled off the boat and the Volkswagen Group’s sporty Spanish brand has already announced changes for model year 2023.
A surround-view camera is now standard on the VZx, and the flagship model’s price has been increased by $500. All models have received towing pre-wiring for 2023.
UPDATE, 07/03/2023 – Cupra has published update pricing for the Formentor range, with a decrease for the V and increases for the VZ, VZe and VZx plus the available Leather and Power Package. We’ve updated this information below.
After offering just 100 Launch Editions in May, based on the top-spec VZx, Cupra will open orders for model year 2023 Formentors in July/August with deliveries beginning in August.
The exception is the plug-in hybrid VZe, for which orders will open in August ahead of deliveries in October 2022.

Engines
Each member of the four-strong 2023 Cupra Formentor range comes with its own powertrain.
The Formentor V is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 140kW of power and 320Nm of torque.
It’s mated with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The Formentor VZ also uses a seven-speed dual-clutch and a turbocharged 2.0-litre, but its engine produces 180kW and 370Nm and it’s front-wheel drive.
The Formentor VZe mates a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, for total system outputs of 180kW and 400Nm. It uses a six-speed wet dual-clutch auto.
The range-topping Formentor VZx uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre with 228kW and 400Nm. It’s all-wheel drive.
Fuel Economy
The 2023 Cupra Formentor uses 7.0L/100km on the combined cycle in V guise, 6.9L/100km in the VZ, 1.9L/100km in the VZe, and 7.7L/100km in the VZx.
All models run on 95 RON premium unleaded fuel except for the VZx, which requires 98 RON.
Dimensions
The 2022 Cupra Formentor measures 4450mm long (4446mm long in the VZ), 1839mm wide, and between 1510mm and 1520mm tall.
It rides a 2680mm wheelbase.
Unbraked towing capacity is 750kg across the range, while braked towing capacity is 1700kg for the V, 1600kg for the VZ, 1500kg for the VZe, and 1800kg for the VZx.
Servicing and Warranty
The Cupra Formentor is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Cupra also includes three years of free servicing.
Safety
The Cupra Formentor has a five-star rating from ANCAP, based on Euro NCAP testing conducted in 2021.
The Formentor scored 93 per cent for adult occupant protection, 88 per cent for child occupant protection, 68 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 80 per cent for safety assist.
