The BYD Seal’s upcoming facelift looks set to bring a revised cabin with a more subdued appearance.
Images uploaded online by Zhang Zhuo, BYD’s general manager of its Ocean Series vehicles – which includes the Seal – show the electric vehicle (EV) is getting a fresh look inside.
Car News China reports it will be revealed on August 8.
The biggest difference between the current and facelifted model is the steering wheel, which has now moved to a four-spoke design with fewer gloss black control buttons, instead adopting a satin finish.
The updated Seal has a newly available Coral Orange colour applied to the steering wheel, lower dashboard, seats, door cards and centre console.
It also appears the seat pattern has changed from the diamond-shaped stitching on the current model to a wave design, reflecting BYD Seal’s standing in the brand’s Ocean lineup.
An additional change is the removal of the Seal’s dashboard air vents for concealed units, as the dashboard appears to be one wide screen – incorporating a digital instrument cluster and a wave pattern graphic in front of the passenger.
However, the central infotainment touchscreen remains as a free-standing unit. This measures 15.6 inches in the current Seal.
The Seal has been recently spied in China, where it could be renamed as the Seal 07.
According to Car News China, it’ll have more power than the current model in rear-wheel drive guise, an 800V electric architecture – up from 400V – and increased driving range, while a new roof-mounted LiDAR sensor will enable better autonomous driving capabilities.
The BYD Seal is Australia’s third best-selling EV, with 4662 deliveries of the sedan to local customers between January and July 2024.
It still trails the Tesla Model 3 by a wide margin, with its electric sedan rival racking up 13,539 deliveries across the same period.
