Skoda’s first electric vehicle (EV) will arrive in Australia by the end of 2024, and the brand has confirmed a second could hit showrooms as soon as July next year.
The Elroq, a mid-sized electric SUV which is yet to be revealed, will join the Enyaq in Skoda’s Australian EV catalogue from mid-2025, according to the Czech carmaker’s latest product schedule.
Skoda Australia head of product and marketing, Kieran Merrigan confirmed global production of the Elroq is due to commence within a few months, with its local launch expected to follow.
“We waited a while for Enyaq but Elroq is going to come real quick, followed by a few more,” Mr Merrigan told CarExpert.
“The current plan is that global production will start in November this year and our production is scheduled for February, so hopefully we’ll have that car in market during Q3 2025, subject to change.”
Pitched as an EV alternative to the petrol-powered Skoda Karoq, the Elroq will share a stable with both the Karoq SUV and electric Enyaq coupe, which will go on sale in Australia this December.
Skoda has not yet revealed pricing or specifications for the new model, although it will not replace the Karoq in the Australian line-up, at least initially.
“The Karoq isn’t going away with the introduction of the Elroq. I think there’s certainly an audience for ICE models and both can exist together,” said Mr Merrigan.
“We know our position in market and we need to have a look at where we sit in the segment to price the Elroq competitively.”
Four versions of the Elroq will be available at launch in Europe, three of which will feature single-motor, rear-wheel drive powertrains.
The base Elroq houses a 125kW motor and 55kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the mid-spec variant ups the outputs to 150kW from a 63kWh battery, and the ’85’ version gets an 82kWh battery and 210kW of power.
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive performance flagship, likely dubbed the RS, will boast 220kW.
Driving range is expected to top 550km for top-spec cars, and DC fast charging capability is standard across the range.
Skoda says the Elroq has 470L of boot space – 51L less than the Karoq – expanding to 1580L with the second row seats folded down.
The brand has also previewed the interior of the Elroq, which will include a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and head-up display.
Alongside the launch of the Elroq, Skoda Australia is planning to launch new generations of Kodiaq and Superb in 2025, as well as facelifted versions of the Octavia RS and Kodiaq RS.
