Chinese luxury electric vehicle (EV) brand Zeekr’s latest vehicle is a five-seat SUV that will go head-to-head with the Tesla Model Y.
The Zeekr 7X is an SUV counterpart to the 007 sedan that was revealed late last year, and the two EVs closely resemble each other.
At this stage we’re still awaiting confirmation from Zeekr’s local division on whether the 7X will be offered in Australia.
As previously reported, Zeekr has previously confirmed it will launch in Australia before the end of 2024 with the 009 people mover. The X small crossover has also been locked in, with customer deliveries due either late in 2024 or early in 2025.
The 7X is based on the PMA2+ platform, derived from Geely’s SEA modular architecture.
It measures in at 4825mm long, 1930mm wide, and 1656mm tall, with a 2925mm wheelbase. This is slightly larger than the Tesla Model Y and around the same size as the seven-seat Kia Sorento.
Full details haven’t been revealed just yet, though all models of the Zeekr 7X have an 800V electric architecture.
The entry-level 7X has an 75kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery which is claimed to be able to gain 500km of range in 15 minutes of charging.
More expensive 7X variants on the other hand have a 100kWh CATL-supplied ternary nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery.
Based on the 007, the entry-level model should have a single-motor rear-wheel drive setup producing 310kW of power, and a more expensive dual-motor all-wheel drive variant with 475kW.
On the design front the Zeekr 7X has a full-width front and rear LED light bar, retracting door handles, and some black cladding to indicate it’s a crossover.
There’s also a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor for the advanced driver assist systems (ADAS).
Zeekr hasn’t released any imagery of the 7X’s interior as of yet. It’s expected to look similar to the 007’s, which has a squared-off steering wheel, large landscape-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, and slim digital instrument cluster.
In China the Zeekr 7X will launch before the end of 2024 and is priced between ¥240,000 and ¥350,000 (~A$49,000 and $71,000).
When it launches the 7X will join the 001 liftback, 007 sedan, 009 and Mix people movers, and X crossover in Zeekr’s lineup.
Only the 009 and X have been confirmed for our market thus far, with examples of the latter having already arrived in Australia.
The company has said not every market it sells vehicles in will receive every vehicle it makes.
“There are markets where we are only bringing two products, there are markets where we are planning to bring five products,” Javier Garcia-Gallardo, head of Zeekr design in Shanghai, told CarExpert in June.
“We start a product in China until we are confident about the reliability, do all the process of homologation and legislation for exporting this product, and then we see the needs of every market and we adapt the product to export globally,” he added.
Zeekr was founded in 2021 as another brand under the Geely umbrella, and is a sister brand to Polestar and Volvo.
