Audi is bringing 22 examples of its RS6 Avant GT super-wagon to Australia, priced at $399,000 before on-road costs, and they’re all accounted for.

The company is touting the high-performance wagon as a collector’s item, with just 660 units being produced for global markets.

It’s now Audi’s most expensive model locally, costing around $149,000 more than the RS6 Performance it’s based on.

You don’t get any extra power for that additional outlay, though the 0-100km/h time has been reduced by a tenth of a second to 3.3 seconds.

The twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 still produces 463kW of power and 850Nm of torque, and is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. Top speed is 305km/h.

There have been mechanical changes, however.

The quattro sport differential has been retuned for more of a rear bias when driving in Dynamic mode, while there’s manually adjustable coilover suspension.

This suspension setup features a higher spring rate, triple-adjustable dampers and stabilisers that are 30 per cent stiffer up front and 80 per cent stiffer at the rear.

Audi Australia does provide the caveat that the coilover suspension is “pending availability”, and customers can alternatively equip the RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control or instead opt for RS adaptive air suspension.

The exterior gets an aggressive makeover inspired by the RS6 GTO concept and the 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car, and sits on unique 22-inch alloy wheels inspired by the 2003 Avus concept.

The bonnet, front fenders and mirror caps are made from carbon fibre bonnet, while the grille and air intakes are finished in high-gloss black trim.

Down back, there’s a restyled rear spoiler, diffuser and tailgate, while the RS6 Avant GT ditches the standard car’s roof rails.

Just two colours are offered in Australia: Arkona White or Mythos Black, with different decals on both plus colour-keyed wheels.

Standard equipment on Australian-delivered examples includes:

    • RS leather and Alcantara bucket seats with carbon rear cover
    • Red and copper stitching details
    • Red seat belts
    • Dinamica upholstery on the armrests, centre console and dashboard
    • Open-pore carbon twill inlays
    • Individual numbering on centre console
    • Customised floor mats, scuff plates and entrance lighting
    • Carbon-ceramic brakes with red calipers

It also gets the contents of the RS6 Avant Performance’s optional Sensory package, which includes:

    • 19-speaker 1820W Bang & Olufsen sound system
    • Heated outboard rear seats
    • Dinamica headliner in black
    • Rear-window sunshades
    • Leather steering wheel centre cover

Like the Performance, it’s backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of complimentary roadside assistance, while you can buy a pre-paid five-year service plan.

It’s also eligible for Audi Advantage, which allows you to purchase additional two-year servicing packages to extend the factory warranty to up to nine years.

The RS6 Avant GT is built at Neckarsulm in Germany but finished off at the Böllinger Höfe factory that produces the e-tron GT and, until recently, the R8 supercar that previously served as Audi’s flagship.
