A local remanufacturing company is planning to sell the Ford F-Series pickup trucks at volume in Australia from the end of 2022.
SCD Remanufactured Vehicles currently imports the RAM pickup truck line-up from the USA, converts the cars to right-hand drive in Queensland, and distributes them through the AUSMV dealer network.
The converted cars are designed to compete with the RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 range that’s remanufactured to right-hand drive in Clayton, and sold under the official RAM brand as part of the Ateco Australia stable.
They also go head-to-head with the Chevrolet Silverado range being converted to right-hand drive by Walkinshaw and sold by GM Specialty Vehicles in Australia.
From the end of 2022, SCD will switch focus to the Ford F-Series range, including the F-150, F-250, F-350, and F-450 pickup trucks. It converts vehicles to right-hand drive using a patented transfer box designed to allow owners to fit American-market accessories such as lift kits to their vehicles in Australia.
Managing director Eddie Kocwa says the F-Series trucks will be converted to right-hand drive on two production lines in Queensland.

The project isn’t affiliated with Ford Australia, which hasn’t committed to bringing the latest F-Series trucks to Australia as bigger brothers to the Ranger.
Mr Kocwa says the F-Series shift will allow SCD Remanufactured to access a more consistent supply of cars from the USA than its current arrangement. Once production ramps up, Mr Kocwa says SCD hopes to sell between 2000 and 3000 cars annually through the AUSMV dealer network.
That would have it nipping at the heels of RAM Australia, which sold 3320 cars in Australia during 2020, and has sold 3182 to date in 2021.

The AUSMV network will stop selling the RAM range during the second quarter of 2022, as it gears up to make the switch to Ford. Mr Kocwa hasn’t ruled out converting RAM cars to right-hand drive in the future.
It’ll continue carrying parts and accessories for the RAM range, and will continue servicing its existing fleet through the mycar – formerly Kmart Tyre and Auto – network as part of a partnership announced earlier in 2021.
The F-150 remains the best-selling car in America, and is available in eight trim levels, with a choice of three body styles and six engines.
There’s also the pure-electric F-150 Lightning, which will go head-to-head with the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck when it hits North American showrooms.
