Cupra Australia isn’t a heavyweight on the sales charts yet, but it’s already bringing ultra-limited editions to cater to individual customer feedback.
The 2023 Cupra Formentor VZx Rojo has been confirmed for the Australian market this week, with just 30 units headed Down Under.
What’s so special? It’s the first time the flagship Formentor VZx has been available with a red exterior paint option, as well as black leather upholstery (as opposed to Petrol Blue).
Priced from $66,490 plus on-road costs – or $71,490 drive-away – the Formentor VZx Rojo is $2500 dearer than the ‘standard’ VZx grade (currently advertised for $68,990 D/A), though it comes fitted with a panoramic sunroof as standard (usually $2100) and Desire Red paint usually adds a further $475 on other variants.
Orders for the Formentor VZx Rojo open from today, with the limited run of 30 vehicles set to arrive during the May-June period – with one particular customer’s deposit expected immediately.
“A highly motivated customer has written to myself and Cupra’s global boss Wayne Griffiths over their disappointment that the Formentor VZx hasn’t been available in red,” said Ben Wilks, Cupra Australia’s director.
“Well, your wish is our demand.”
Fun fact: ‘Rojo’ means ‘red’ in Castilian (Spanish), whereas ‘red’ is ‘vermell’ in Catalan – the official language of the Catalonia region where Cupra’s Barcelona HQ is located.
Pricing for some members of the Formentor range has crept up since the MY23 announcement last year, with the 180kW VZ FWD now $1000 dearer ($59,490 D/A) and the VZx AWD up $2000 ($68,990 D/A).
