Three people were caught in a traffic targeting operation in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) last week, with a spate of offences recorded across the board.
On Thursday, August 8 around midday, ACT Road Policing officers conducted random breath testing in Greenway, where these drivers were snared. All are now facing dates at the ACT Magistrates Court.
What’s unique about the police bust is the severity and number of offences recorded by the three drivers, including a woman who blew more than five times the legal alcohol limit.
The 44-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Getz was stopped and allegedly returned a positive reading for alcohol, after which she was taken to Tuggeranong Police Station.
Once there, a secondary breath test was conducted, where she allegedly returned a breath analysis of 0.256 – more than five times the legal limit. She received an immediate suspension notice, which removes her right to drive in the ACT for 90 days.
Around half an hour later, a 51-year-old man in a Holden Commodore underwent a roadside drug screening test and allegedly returned a positive result both at the traffic stop and later at Tuggeranong Police Station.
Police say that further laboratory testing is pending, and he’s facing a licence suspension as well.
Upon conducting checks on the vehicle, police found his Holden hadn’t been registered since 2017.
The final member of the trio who’ll need to front up at the ACT Magistrates Court was a 36-year-old woman driving a Holden Cruze.
Police allege she was driving unlicensed, driving an unregistered vehicle, and displaying registration plates that were not meant for that vehicle.
