The facelifted Genesis GV70 – South Korea’s answer to the BMW X3 – is due to enter production in the coming months, bringing significant interior upgrades according to overseas reports.
South Korean publication ETNews reports the updated Genesis GV70 is due to enter production in May 2024, about three and a half years after the mid-sized SUV launched in December 2020.
It will adopt a revised exterior akin to that of the facelifted Genesis GV80, with tweaked headlights that still retain the brand’s distinctive split-level design.
According to the report, the biggest changes are expected to come for the GV70’s interior, which like the GV80 will reportedly get a new 27-inch OLED display incorporating a digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen.
As with the GV80, the updated GV70 will also reportedly get a new three-spoke steering wheel and a redesigned centre stack and console.
The GV70’s existing turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder and twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines are understood to be sticking around.
A 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel will also reportedly continue to be offered, though it has already been discontinued in Australia due to low demand.
The Genesis Electrified GV70 will also continue, entering production in August 2024 and as the brand’s direct rival to the BMW iX3.
In 2023, the GV70 was easily the most popular Genesis model in Australia, with the 1190 examples sold representing more than 60 per cent of the brand’s 1916 local sales.
It was outsold by rivals from better-known brands in the $60,000 and above mid-sized SUV market, which is led by the Tesla Model Y (28,769 sales), Lexus NX (6875 sales), Audi Q5 (4210 sales) and BMW X3 (4002 sales).
