The GWM Haval H6 GT coupe SUV is set to get plug-in hybrid (PHEV) power in Australia.

According to a post on the GWM Tank 300 Owners Australia group on Facebook, which includes a slide from what appears to be an internal GWM presentation, the H6 GT PHEV is coming Down Under.

The Haval H6 GT is currently offered here only with petrol power, despite the related Haval H6 offering both petrol and hybrid options.

The Facebook post makes note of it featuring a 35.4kWh battery, though it doesn’t specify launch timing.

It comes before a H6 GT PHEV has even been revealed in China. And though the Haval H6 recently received a facelift in China, expected here late in 2024, an updated version of the GT has yet to be revealed.

Specifications for the refreshed Haval H6 PHEV have also yet to be revealed.

The current Haval H6 PHEV uses a 113kW/233Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated with a 130kW/300Nm electric motor, a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and either a 9.4kWh or 19.9kWh battery.

Total system outputs are 240kW and 530Nm, while WLTC range is 44km with the smaller battery and 86km with the larger one.

The GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV will go up against plug-in hybrid SUVs like the BYD Sealion 6, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Outlander, and MG HS.

The brand doesn’t currently offer any PHEVs, though it recently brought plug-in versions of its Cannon Alpha and Tank 500 to Australia for journalists to drive.

The Haval H6 GT arrived here in 2022, becoming the only mass-market, mid-sized coupe SUV. Not only does it feature a unique roofline to its more conventional H6 sibling, it also has unique front and rear end details.

Despite the absence of a hybrid option, GWM has sold 2280 examples this year to the end of August.

While that’s less than the Haval H6 (5926 sales), it was just seven units shy of the MG HS (2280 sales) and bested rivals like the Renault Koleos (729 sales).
