There are thousands of carparks in Australia, but the dumbest and most confusing carpark in the country might have been crowned.
Users of the r/melbourne group on Reddit uploaded this image of an IGA shopping centre carpark in Officer, about an hour south-east of the state capital’s CBD.
Though the 24-space carpark looks normal at first glance, there’s one obvious omission: an exit.
While many small carparks only have one road to enter and exit via, there are no line markings directing people out of the area, leaving them on an endless loop if common sense doesn’t prevail.
It’s possible to drive back out via the way you drive in, but you’ll need to be careful for entering drivers who may not be aware they’ll have to give more space to those exiting.
The image’s original poster claims the IGA has been open for at least six months but the line markings are unchanged.
Other commenters found humour in the poor design, referencing the Eagles song Hotel California.
“Welcome to the shopping centre in officer, such a lovely place, such a lovely place. You can park in any spot you like, but you can never leave,” user midsize nun posted.
