Mercedes-Benz Australia has indicated it’s expecting two versions of the all-new EQE electric vehicle before the end of 2022 – including one AMG variant and one regular model.

The AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ – offering up to 505kW/1000Nm – will be the headline act when the range launches during the fourth quarter, but a more affordable Benz-badged version should also make it before year’s end.

While the German luxury marque hasn’t confirmed exactly which Benz version will be making the trip Down Under, CarExpert understands it will likely be an as-yet un-launched variant featuring 4Matic all-wheel drive.

According to international media materials, “further versions will follow” with 4Matic variants confirmed as part of the range expansion.

An EQE 350 4Matic with dual-motor all-wheel drive is expected to debut soon, and will likely be the first non-AMG version of the new electric sedan to go on sale in Australia, offering a projected 215kW.

European customers also have the choice of the 215kW/565Nm EQE 350+ with rear-wheel drive, the 300kW/858Nm EQE 500 4Matic (AWD), as well as the AMG EQE 43 4Matic which offers 350kW and 858Nm. It’s understood none of these variants are earmarked for an Australian launch.

In 2023 it’s believed Mercedes-Benz Australia will introduce a third, entry-level version of the EQE. Badged EQE 300, the as yet un-launched model is reported to offer around 180kW from its single-motor RWD electric drive system.

The Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG versions of the EQE will compete with a range of vehicles, including everything from high-spec versions of the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3 through to entry-level versions of the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan depending on variant.

Full Australian pricing and specification details for the new EQE line-up will be confirmed closer to launch. Mercedes-Benz’s local division has indicated a fourth-quarter arrival for the AMG EQE 53 as well as the unconfirmed non-AMG model.
