Peugeot Australia has axed its turbo-diesel SUV variants for 2023, meaning its entire passenger car and SUV ranges is now either petrol-powered or electrified.
The Peugeot 3008 GT Diesel and 5008 GT Diesel have both been discontinued for the 2023 model year, with remaining stock able to be purchased from its dealer network.
“With continuous local market evaluation undertaken to ensure the Australian market is provided a carefully considered vehicle offering, the MY22 3008 GT Diesel [and MY22 5008 GT Diesel] will be discontinued for the MY23 production,” said a Peugeot Australia spokesperson.
Both the 3008 GT Diesel and 5008 GT Diesel were powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 131kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
The 2023 Peugeot 3008 range now consists of the Allure, GT Petrol, and GT Sport, which are all powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, as well as the flagship GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD.
The 2023 Peugeot 5008 range on the other hand now comprises one variant – the GT Sport. Like the non-hybrid 3008 range, this variant is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.
It’s worth noting turbo-diesel powertrains are still available on Peugeot’s Expert and Boxer commercial vans.
Peugeot has been busily rolling out plug-in hybrids, with a fourth – the 508 GT Sportswagon Plug-In Hybrid – due in the second quarter of 2023.
Peugeot Australia is now introducing its first electric vehicles, with two already confirmed to be arriving this year and another in the final stages of evaluation.
The company recently opened pre-orders of its e-Partner small electric van ahead of its arrival in mid-2023. Priced from $59,990 before on-road costs, the e-Partner is over $21,000 more expensive than the Partner City long-wheelbase.
The French brand is set to offer a “highly-specced single variant” of the e-2008 electric SUV. It’ll arrive in the the third quarter of 2023 with pricing and specification to be announced at a later date.
The e-208 electric hatch is now in the final evaluation stages, according to Peugeot Australia. It could arrive before the end of the year.
