Polestar is officially off and running in Australia.
UPDATE, 22/03/2022 – CarExpert has clarified the comments made by the Polestar Australia spokesperson.
The electric carmaker has officially started delivering cars to its first 180 customers in Australia.
Another 200 examples of the Tesla Model 3-rivalling Polestar 2 are on their way, and will touch down on Australian soil before the end of March 2022.
A Polestar Australia spokesperson said stock levels are currently strong.
This is something few other brands can claim in the face of ongoing component shortages and shipping dramas.
The spokesperson said Polestar is gearing up to report its registration figures to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) for its monthly VFACTS report.
Rival automaker Tesla is notorious for not reporting its sales data through this official channel.
CarExpert understands in the three and a half months since reservations opened, Polestar has taken around 600 orders for its first offering in Australia.
Deliveries of the Polestar 2 have kicked off in Melbourne and Sydney, with Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, and Tasmania set to follow before the end of March. Western Australian deliveries will kick off in April 2022.
Polestar, which uses a direct-to-consumer sales model, has recently detailed a seven-day returns policy as long as the owner hasn’t driven more than 500km. This compliments five years of free servicing and warranty.
The company is also offering financing, underwritten by Allied Credit, and guaranteed future value, which means customers have certainty about the minimum trade-in price for their car after their lease period.
Polestar, which is owned by Chinese giant Geely and shares platforms and technology with Volvo, offers the Polestar 2 electric sedan in three different flavours locally.
The range consists of standard- and long-range single-motor variants, as well as a long-range dual-motor model.
All of these variants are covered by a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Pricing for the 2022 Polestar 2 is as follows:
- 2022 Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor: $59,900
- 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor: $64,900
- 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor: $69,900
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Polestar recently made a spec adjustment to the Polestar 2 due to semiconductor chip shortage which saw its Pixel LED headlights and cornering lights temporarily removed from the option list.
These were included as part of the optional $5000 Pilot Pack. The pack has now been renamed to Pilot Lite and has had its price reduced to $3400.
Polestar has also indicated its next vehicle, the Polestar 3 SUV, is expected touch down in Australia in 2023.
