Dashcam footage shared online has shown the reckless behaviour of a driver in a rented Toyota HiLux.
According to Dash Cam Owners Australia, the two drivers were travelling in Milperra, west of Sydney on February 9, 2024 when the dashcam owner claims the driver of the single-cab Toyota HiLux cut them off as their lane ended.
According to Transport for NSW, the vehicle in a lane that’s ending – in this case, the HiLux driver – must give way to vehicles in the other lane. Based on the lane markings visible in this video, the HiLux driver wasn’t permitted to do what’s called a “zipper merge”.
The dashcam owner admits they honked and gave the HiLux driver the finger when they were “cut off”.
The dashcam video has no sound and there’s a cut around 20 seconds in, so we don’t entirely know what transpired.
However, we can see the HiLux brake-checking and continuing to obstruct the dashcam owner’s vehicle, and at one point even stopping across a lane of traffic and opening his door.
The dashcam owner even swerves into oncoming traffic at one point to avoid a collision with the ute.
According to the dashcam driver, he contacted the police to report the dangerous driving, however it’s unclear if any charges were laid.
