Cupra Australia now has an SUV under $50,000 drive-away.

The 2024 Cupra Ateca V has landed with sharp “introductory” pricing of $49,888 drive-away, $10,000 less than the more powerful Ateca VZx that’s currently being advertised at $59,888 drive-away for MY23 stock.

Joining entry ‘V’ versions of the Leon hatchback and Formentor crossover, the Ateca V gets a lower tune of the Volkswagen Group’s EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 140kW of power and 320Nm of torque.

Drive is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic.

The Ateca V undercuts the related Skoda Karoq Sportline 4×4 by nearly $3000 despite featuring more standard kit, and also undercuts the related VW T-Roc R-Line ($52,990 drive-away).

Beyond the VW Group stable, the Ateca V is more affordable than the Hyundai Kona Premium N Line 1.6T AWD (~$51,000 D/A), though is a little dearer than the top-spec Kia Seltos GT-Line 1.6T AWD ($48,090 D/A).

Technically classified as a medium SUV, the Ateca V lines up on price against low- to mid-spec versions of the mid-sized Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage.

The 2024 Cupra Ateca V is on sale now.
