Volkswagen Australia will finally bring in its more car-like Multivan people mover in the new year, initially as a diesel-only proposition in two trim levels.
Previously due for a late-2024 arrival, Volkswagen Australia product and PR communications manager Daniel DeGasperi told media at the launch of the updated T-Cross SUV this week the new Multivan will launch during the first quarter of 2025 (January to March).

“In terms of seven seaters [the ID.Buzz] will be complimented in the first quarter of 2025 by an all-new Multivan,” Mr DeGasperi said.
“We’ll launch it here with a 360Nm diesel seven-seat Life variant, and the Style will follow shortly after.”
The Multivan will come with a 2+2+3 seating configuration, with the rear seats and multi-function table mounted on rails so they can slide to free up more space. They can also be removed entirely, while the armrests of both the front and rear seats can also be removed separately.
Volkswagen says the seats in the second and third rows are 25 per cent lighter to make seat removal a less back-breaking process. As the second row can swivel up to 180 degrees, passengers in the back can face one another.
Last November, Volkswagen Australia released initial specification details of the local Multivan lineup.

Unlike the existing Multivan, which is based on the same commercial vehicle platform as the related T6.1 Transporter range, the new model is based on the VW Group’s MQB Evo modular passenger car platform.
The move to a car platform is claimed to bring marked improvements to refinement, ride and handling, and also gives the Multivan better access to the electrification options that are compatible with the architecture which underpins the likes of the Golf and Tiguan.
Volkswagen Australia has also confirmed a second powertrain variant will join the local range during the latter stages of 2025 – though stopped short of detailing what it will be.
The T7 Multivan is currently available in Europe with a 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, a 150kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, as well as a 160kW 1.4-litre eHybrid plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
The latter mates the brand’s ubiquitous 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with an 85kW electric motor and 13kWh lithium-ion battery, promising about 50km of electric driving range.
