Geely-owned electric vehicle (EV) brand Zeekr has revealed an updated version of its 009, even though it only started building the people mover less than two years ago.

The update coincides with the introduction of a right-hand drive version, which has been locked in for Australia.

The Zeekr brand is set to launch in Australia early in the fourth quarter of 2024.

At this stage Zeekr hasn’t confirmed what the local 009 range will look like. It’s available in six- and seven-seat configurations in regular guise, as well as an ultra-luxurious four-seat configuration in the 009 Grand.

Zeekr claims the 009 is available in a wide range of electric powertrain and battery configurations. The “top tier” variant has a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with 580kW of power and 810Nm of torque.

The previous flagship Zeekr 009 offered 400kW and 686Nm, which is 180kW and 124Nm less.

This updated flagship variant is claimed to be able to do the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds, up from 4.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 230km/h.

The two electric motors are fed by an 140kWh battery pack which allows for a claimed 900km of range according to CLTC testing.

The electric people mover’s chassis is claimed to have been “thoroughly upgraded” with this update. All variants now come standard with dual-chamber air suspension with continuously controlled damping (CCD) dampers.

Inside the Zeekr 009 now comes with a larger 15.05-inch OLED touchscreen with 2.5k resolution in the front, as well as a larger 17-inch OLED screen with 3k resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate in the rear.

    There’s also a 30-speaker Yamaha surround-sound system, up from the pre-update model’s 20-speaker Yamaha sound system.

Globally, Zeekr offers the 001 liftback, 007 sedan, 009 and Mix people movers, as well as the X and recently revealed 7X crossovers.

Only the 009 and X have been confirmed for our market thus far, with the latter now approved for sale. Examples of the Zeekr X have already arrived in Australia.
