Interior
The Navara’s interior may be showing its age, but it’s sturdily built.
There are no soft-touch plastics to be found here – not altogether unusual in the ute segment – but everything feels like it’ll stand the test of time, with no rattles and a properly bolted-in centre tunnel. There’s also squishy padding on the door armrests and centre console lid.
It might look lost in the slabby dashboard surrounded by myriad buttons, but the Navara’s 8.0-inch touchscreen is a competitive size for this segment and comes with (wired) smartphone mirroring.
It has a good sat-nav system that can be controlled from the screen or via the quite effective native voice control system. The surround-view camera, like the reversing camera, doesn’t have the crispest resolution but it’s still a worthy feature in such a large vehicle that makes tight parking easier.
The large digitised trip computer is slick. It’s simple to cycle through trip data, active safety functions, detailed direction signals when you’re using the navigation, and audio functions via the steering wheel buttons.
Connectivity-wise you have Bluetooth or the choice of three regular USB points and a single USB-C. There are also 12V outlets in the fascia and in the centre console.
The most recent update brought a vastly better steering wheel design, though the wheel still isn’t telescopically adjustable. Strangely, Nissan deleted the dash-mounted cupholders and the dash-top storage cubby with the latest update.
The Navara could also do with more storage. Making do with just the one glovebox and a shallow open area below the ventilation controls that’s weirdly smaller than most modern iPhones is a little annoying. However, you can definitely get away with putting your things in the door bins and the console.
The front seats are rather flat, firm and unsupportive, regardless of the variant. Unusually, the PRO-4X Warrior lacks power adjustment for the driver’s seat despite this being available on the PRO-4X.
The dual cab’s rear seats are roomy and comfortable enough for two average adults (even with the front occupied) with decent head- and legroom, but expect to feel a little squished if you measure north of 190cm.
Amenities back there include solid grab handles on the B-pillar, a folding armrest with cupholders, rear air vents (not all competitors have these), and a single USB point. Rear occupants also have side head-protecting airbags and a combination of ISOFIX anchors and a single top-tether loop.
You can also flip the rear seats up to reveal two small storage cubbies below that are ideal for hiding valuables.
Unusually for this segment, there’s a sliding rear window.
Exterior
The base SL rides on 17-inch steel wheels, with the ST upgrading to 17-inch alloys.
The Pro-4X Warrior also features 17-inch alloys, albeit in more off-road-oriented rubber, while the ST-X and Pro-4X ride on 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Pro-4X Warrior, tuned by local outfit Premcar, is well-distinguished from the rest of the Navara range. In addition to various modifications under the skin, there's an extra 40mm of ground clearance (260mm), a 30mm wider track (1600mm), as well as accessories like a front light bar and a red bash plate.

How it Drives
The 2024 Nissan Navara range is powered by a pair of 2.3-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines.
The base, single-turbo in the SL manual produces 120kW of power and 403Nm of torque, while the twin-turbo version in all other variants produces 140kW and 450Nm.
The manual transmission is a six-speed unit, while the automatic is a seven-speed automatic.
Four-wheel drive variants have part-time four-wheel drive with low-range and an electronically-locking rear differential.
Nissan Navara Safety Rating
The Navara has a five-star rating based on ANCAP testing conducted in 2015.
That rating was based on a frontal offset score of 14.01 out of 16, a side impact score of 16 out of 16, and pedestrian and whiplash protection scores of Marginal and Good, respectively.
All Navara models come standard with the following active safety features:
- Forward collision warning
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Driver attention monitoring
- Reversing camera
Moving to the ST adds the following active safety features:
- Surround-view camera
- Rear parking sensors
- Lane departure warning
- Lane-keep assist
- Blind-spot monitoring and assist

Option Pack 2 costs $2500 and adds the following over Option Pack 1:

Nissan Navara Warranty
The 2024 Nissan Navara is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty like the wider Nissan range.
Maintenance is required every 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first.
Nissan Navara Stock Availability
Nissan says that, like the rest of the industry, its stock levels are constantly fluctuating due to supply constraints and increased demand. It says it has “reasonable stock levels” of the Navara and will have additional supply in the coming months.
It says wait time depends on a number of factors including variant and location, and recommends talking to a dealer.
Nissan Navara Boot Space
The Navara’s tub may be one of the shorter ones in the segment, but it’s wider than the likes of the Mitsubishi Triton and Ford Ranger.
It measures 1509mm long, 1560mm wide (1134mm between the arches) and 519mm deep.
Payload of all dual-cab models is at least 1000kg, except for the Pro-4X Warrior where it's 961kg with the manual and 952kg with the auto.
The single-cab Navara SL cab chassis has the range’s highest payload (1282kg), while the ST-X king cab 4×4 has the lowest (876kg).
All 2022 Navara models have a 3500kg braked towing capacity and a 750kg unbraked towing capacity.
Nissan Navara Fuel Economy
The 2024 Nissan Navara uses between 7.2L/100km and 8.1L/100km according ADR combined drive cycle testing.
The most efficient figure is for the entry-level Navara SL single cab chassis 4×2 with a manual transmission, and the least efficient is for the Navara Pro-4X with an automatic transmission.
Nissan doesn’t note any changes in claimed fuel economy for the Warrior models although they are heavier and have all-terrain tyres.
All models have an 80L fuel tank.
Depending on the variant, view the 2024 NISSAN NAVARA fuel usage below.

The 2024 NISSAN NAVARA has a braked towing capacity of 3500kg and an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg.
Nissan Navara Market Fit
The Nissan Navara competes in Australia's hotly-contested 4x2 and 4x4 ute segments. It's aimed at people who want to carry a load or tow something like a boat.
Although it's still a work vehicle at heart, the Navara is increasingly aimed at lifestyle buyers – witness the slick Pro-4X or the rugged, adventure-ready Pro-4X Warrior.
Nissan Navara Sales Data
In 2021, the Navara was Australia's sixth best-selling ute with 15,113 sold.
That put it behind the Toyota HiLux (52,081), Ford Ranger (50,279), Isuzu D-Max (25,117), Mitsubishi Triton (19,232) and Mazda BT-50 (15,662).
Nissan Navara Reliability
The Nissan Navara has remained one of the most reliable utes on the market with little indication of systematic issues reported.
Should you buy the Nissan Navara
Though it rides well and has a quiet cabin, the Navara is arguably a mid-pack offering in the ute segment.
Its performance isn't top of the class, it isn't the cheapest, and its interior is showing its age, but fundamentally it still does enough right to deserve being on your shortlist.
Competitor Analysis
Though Nissan has kept it fresh, the Navara can't help but be a little squeezed by the likes of the more value-priced Mitsubishi Triton (not to mention the GWM Ute and LDV T60) on one side and the recently redesigned Isuzu D-Max and Mazda BT-50 on the other.
Then there are the segment's best sellers, the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
The Triton can't tow as much and the list of safety equipment is shorter in most of its variants, but it counters with lower prices. The D-Max and BT-50 twins offer an interior that feels newer, though their 3.0-litre turbo-diesel doesn't offer any more power or torque than the Navara's twin-turbo 2.3-litre diesel.
The Ranger is on the cusp of a slick, more tech-focused redesign and the Toyota HiLux's top engine packs more torque, plus that Toyota badge seems to carry more weight with buyers.
Nissan Navara Interesting Facts
Mercedes-Benz used the Navara as a base for its short-lived X-Class ute, while a restyled version of the Navara was also sold as the Renault Alaskan.
The next-generation Navara will share a great deal under the skin with the next-generation Triton from Nissan's Alliance partner Mitsubishi.
